Responses: As the scheduling assignment progressed this week, what considerations were at the front of your mind? How did you plan ahead to make sure these considerations don't cause any issues down the line? How have you prepared yourself and your production to avoid speed bumps?

The biggest consideration at the front of my mind is – how am I going to do this in the coming year? How can I possibly complete all of production in a reasonable amount of time before starting post-production. I am not sure I can take it all on and accomplish this project for my thesis to the personal standard I would like to uphold. Planning for this project has been a little daunting; the good news is that this class helped me understand that. I am not closing the door on this project, I am simply putting it on the shelf to be revisited sometime soon in the future.

I think planning ahead to make sure there are no issues, involves me not taking this on for my thesis. I am very passionate about this film and want it to be all that I think it could be. If given appropriate time and thought, I think it will be a very powerful and eye opening film. But for now, I will simply need to wait.

Lastly, by doing all of this pre-production work now means that I can pushforward with making the film sometime in the future when the stress of life and graduate courses are not so overbearing. I will be able to look back and move forward with all of the work that I have accomplished to this point in hopes of making a better film.

  1. You seem to have a much better grasp on your project than I do. After the last few weeks I have completely burned out. I'm glad to see that at least one of us has figured out their plans moving forward.

  2. Hey Dusty! I think it's great that you're so self-aware of your project and where you want it to go. I think that your decision to wait will only allow you more time to shape the idea into the perfect film and I can't wait to see it when it is finished.

  3. What are you going to do with your thesis now? I'm glad this class has helped you understand the challenges of producing! :)

  4. Rushing your film (or it not being up to your standards via this timeframe) could certainly be disappointing for you, so this is a smart move on your part. I'm likely doing the same with my current thesis idea.

  5. Understanding scale is one of the most important parts of the early producing stage. This project can be pre-produced for now and put on hold until you have the time and resources to attempt something of this size. I know it feels daunting, but figuring this out now is actually a very helpful part of the process. Hang in there!
